Homemade Cleaning Recipe Reviews

I really have made and used every homemade cleaning product shown on my blog.  And I thought it was time I gave a brief review of the products so far.  So, here's a little honesty:

Dishwasher Powder :  This is the only item I am completely disappointed in.  The powder cakes up and makes it difficult to use.  I'm not super impressed with the cleaning either.  Coffee stains left in my white cups do not make me happy.  I am going back to my commercial product until I find a new (hopefully better) recipe to try out.

Fabric Softener : Good stuff!  I like getting to select my own scent from all the yummy hair conditioner varieties.  Softens just as well as the commercial brand I used to use.

Furniture Polish : Great lemon scent, and give a lovely shine to my wood furniture.  Just be careful not to use too much or it can leave a film.

Glass Cleaner : Works just as well - or better - than the commercial product!  A definite keeper!!

Laundry Powder :  LOVE this!  So glad I started using it.  Cleans just as well as the commercial without the harsh chemical smell.  A nice clean fragrance from the soap that doesn't linger on clothes.

Mildew Remover : Eh... I could go either way on this.  Not as efficient as the commerical stuff.  But not anywhere near as harsh either.  I think if I were more diligent with it, it would be better

Soft Scrubbing Liquid : Awesome!  If I didn't know it was homemade, I don't think I could tell the difference when I use this I can not tell a difference between this and the commercial!  Super shine!

Tub & Shower Cleaner :  Another keeper.  The vinegar scent is a little strong when you first clean the entire shower closure with it, but the Dawn helps cut that.  Does a great job removing soap scum and leaves a lovely shine!

  3. I love this list! Thanks for the time and effort you put into it! I was wondering how the cost would compare -- making the cleaners vs purchasing concentrates - have you done the price break down for that? Also, when you make the recipes - are you using green, non-toxic ingredients?
